How to Clean Pipettes

Start cleaning by rinsing the pipette with a strong detergent and then wash the pipette with distilled water several times. Air-dry it at 600C and finish the cleaning by conducting a wipe test to ensure that all of the radioactive substance is gone. Most pipettes can be cleaned externally with typical household or laboratory cleaning agents, soaps, or alcohol. By spraying or wiping the exterior of the instrument, the outside of the pipette can be easily cleaned. To ensure full sterilization, let the cleaning solution sit on the pipette for 10-12 minutes before wiping it off. Please make sure that the pipette is clean and that any residuals of the cleaning agent have been removed. Autoclave the pipette at 121°C and 1 bar overpressure for 20 minutes. Afterwards, cool the pipette to ambient temperature and let it dry. With Eppendorf pipettes it is not necessary to grease the piston after every autoclavation step.

How To Clean A Pipette Properly - MBP INC

Check that your laboratory work station is clean from any loose items. Things like pipettes, glassware, beakers, and similar things should be placed where they belong. For cleaning your lab surfaces, bring 10% bleach, and mix only a very little amount in a bucket full of water to mop. Make use of the best lab equipment cleaning solution on lint-free tissues or a soft cloth and gently wipe the entire pipette. However, you want to make sure you don't submerge the entire thing in water. Wiping or gentle scrubbing with the soap solution will help you get rid of all the grime and dust from the pipette. The use of filter tips can prevent the sample from getting inside the pipette. The most suitable position of pipetting is vertical. Store the pipettes in an upright position. Make sure to lean the bottle for effective pipetting. Release the button slowly while pipetting. It'll keep the sample from entering into the pipette.
