Here is a list on how to use a micropipette by BioNetwork: Steps to follow when using a micropipette: Select the volume; Set the tip; Press and hold the plunger at the first stop; Place the tip in the liquid; Slowly release the plunger; Pause for a second and then move the tip; Insert the tip into the delivery vessel; Press the plunger to the second stop; Pause for 2 seconds; Remove the tip; Release the plunger; Eject the tip into the waste container. To add to the list, don’t forget to pre-wet the pipette tip 2-3 times before using aspiring a sample. This will increase the humidity within the pipette tip and minimizing sample evaporation.

Consistent and accurate manipulation of liquids is essential for many biology experiments. Teaching these skills is challenging in the laboratory. I have developed Training Tips, a homemade teaching tool to train students to use micropipettes in the classroom and laboratory. Training Tips provide obvious visual targets that enable inexperienced students to know immediately if they are pipetting accurately. Micropipettes should never be used to measure volumes above the upper limit of their capacity (for example, never measure greater than 20.0 l with a P20 micropipette).
