How to Use a Micropipettor

Here is a list on how to use a micropipette by BioNetwork: Steps to follow when using a micropipette: Select the volume; Set the tip; Press and hold the plunger at the first stop; Place the tip in the liquid; Slowly release the plunger; Pause for a second and then move the tip; Insert the tip into the delivery vessel; Press the plunger to the second stop; Pause for 2 seconds; Remove the tip; Release the plunger; Eject the tip into the waste container. To add to the list, don’t forget to pre-wet the pipette tip 2-3 times before using aspiring a sample. This will increase the humidity within the pipette tip and minimizing sample evaporation.

Micropipette Tips at Thomas Scientific

Micropipette Tips, PP: from 100% virgin polypropylene, United micropipette tips are DNase, RNase and Pyrogen free. The highly smooth surface is hydrophobic to provide low liquid retention, increased accuracy and repeatability. Inner radial rings enable an airtight grip on the tip cone. Autoclavable at 121°C. Micropipette Tips, Low Retention: Use these tips to reduce sample retention for precision. Retention level is 10 times lesser with viscous samples than standard pipette tips. Highly homogenous surface is free of defects, preventing non-specific binding. Manufactured from ultrapure USP Class VI certified, virgin polypropylene. Micropipette Set: 3 Microlit Lab Pipettor (0.5-10ul, 10-100ul, 100-1000ul) Universal Tipcone – compatible with most internationally accepted tips Fully autoclavable at 20° C, 15psi. for 10 – 15 mins Calibration certificate provided – Conforms to ISO 8655 standards.

Micropipettes Training

Consistent and accurate manipulation of liquids is essential for many biology experiments. Teaching these skills is challenging in the laboratory. I have developed Training Tips, a homemade teaching tool to train students to use micropipettes in the classroom and laboratory. Training Tips provide obvious visual targets that enable inexperienced students to know immediately if they are pipetting accurately. Micropipettes should never be used to measure volumes above the upper limit of their capacity (for example, never measure greater than 20.0 l with a P20 micropipette). At the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Select the appropriate micropipette for the volume that they are measuring.

FAQ of Micropipette Tips

What volumes are the micropipettes?

Micropipettes are available in different volumes ranging from 0.1 µl to 10,0000 µl. A German scientist's pipetting frustration becomes an essential laboratory workflow. A micropipette is a pipette used for measuring small volumes of liquids with a volume range between 1 and 1000µl.

Are micropipettes volumetric?

A specialized example of a volumetric pipette is the microfluid pipette (capable of dispensing as little as 10 µL) designed with a circulating liquid tip that generates a self-confining volume in front of its outlet channels.

Are micropipettes accurate?

Micropipettes are designed to operate with accuracies within a few percent (generally <3%) of the intended value. The accuracy of a micropipette decreases somewhat when micropipettes are set to deliver volumes close to the lowest values in their range.

Where is the volume range indicated on the micropipette?

Volume indicators on the P-1000, P-200 and P-20 micropipettes. The top digit on the P-1000 (red on some models) indicates milliliters and the bottom digit on the P-20 (red on some models) indicates tenths of microliters. Note the differences in accuracy between the micropipettes.

What's the smallest micropipette?

A micropipette can come in one of many standard sizes, and the most common can measure out a volume between 0.1 microliters and 1000 microliters. This is 0.0001 milliliters to 1 milliliter. Just as 1000 milliliters is equal to 1 liter, 1000 microliters is equal to 1 milliliter.
